Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Timothy (Dr.) said that he had a fruitful discussion with the President of Djibouti Ismail Omar Guelleh and other officials of the country regarding the use of the port and other bilateral and regional issues. 

 

The Minister, who is on a working visit to Djibouti, said in an interview with Djibouti Radio and Television that the purpose of the visit is to consult on bilateral and regional issues.

 

He also stated that Ethiopia and Djibouti have a very special and strong cooperation. 

 

He stated that he discussed with the President of Djibouti Ismail Omar Guelleh and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mahmoud Ali Youssef on the possibility of working together on bilateral and regional political and security issues. 

 

He mentioned for example that he advises on trade issues, port usage and current regional security issues. 

 

In general, ESA reported that they had a constructive and fruitful discussion with the officials. 

 

Ethiopia and Djibouti are countries that have a historical friendship that spans centuries in the fields of railways, ports and infrastructure.

 

According to information, formal diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Djibouti began in 1984.
