As of March 2023, approximately 153 million people are likely to be food insecure
Addis Ababa, April 25, 2023 According to the Food Security Information Network's annual report, about 153 million people in 38 of 58 countries and territories may be exposed to food insecurity from the end of March 2023.
According to the report, Burkina Faso, Haiti, Mali, some states of Nigeria, Somalia, and South Sudan will be countries that are vulnerable to food security problems.
The report indicates that Somalia, which covers 75 percent of the vulnerable countries, is indicated by the information we received from the World Food Program.
United Nations, European Union, governmental and non-governmental agencies have acknowledged the report and confirmed that they will work to solve the problem as much as possible.
On the other hand, the report recalled that by the end of 2022, approximately 258 million people in 58 countries and territories were exposed to food insecurity.
The report indicated that this is much worse compared to 2021 and the previous seven years.
The report also mentioned that 193 million people in 53 countries and territories were exposed to food insecurity by the end of 2021.
In 2022, people in Somalia, Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Haiti, Nigeria, South Sudan and Yemen were exposed to the problem of food security.
According to the report, it was Somalia that covered 57 percent at that time.
