#Ethiopia The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Meles Ameldel stated that Ethiopia is doing effective work in bilateral and multilateral diplomacy alongside the United Nations General Assembly.

The 78th United Nations General Assembly is being held in New York under the theme "Peace, Prosperity, Change and Sustainability".

A delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Demeke Mekonon is participating in the conference, said Ambassador Meles Ameldon, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He said that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonon held fruitful discussions with the leaders and officials of various countries as well as representatives of international institutions and partners on the sidelines of the conference.

With this, efforts to strengthen peace in the region and discussions focused on bilateral issues have been made, he said.

He also stated that Ethiopia has explained its position regarding the development goals at the Political Forum of Sustainable Development Goals.

In addition, Ambassador Meles said that the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke participated in the forums organized by the leaders and senior officials of various countries.

He also mentioned that the platforms created an opportunity to inform Ethiopia of its needs.

He said that Ato Demeke has called on the Security Council to have a fair representation in the informal meeting organized by German Prime Minister Olaf Schulz on the reform of the United Nations and International Financial Institutions.

He said successful discussions were held with the representatives of international institutions on the conditions under which Ethiopia can receive financial support.

During the General Assembly, he explained Ethiopia's needs and stated that the bilateral and multilateral diplomatic efforts were fruitful.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Demeke Mekonon is expected to give a speech at the 78th United Nations General Assembly at the end of the week, explaining the position of Ethiopia and his government.

The 78th United Nations General Assembly, which is being held in New York, will last until September 15, 2016.
