Soil, health and noise standards to be revised

#Ethiopia | The Ethiopian Standards Institute has announced that the standards measuring soil quality, health and health-related issues, and noise levels will be revised and approved in the upcoming fiscal year.

Worku Adefers, Head of the Institute’s Standards Preparation Desk, explained that the institute is organizing standards in seven sectors; he said that there are standard preparation works related to environmental health and safety, soil quality, health and health-related issues, and noise.

He also said that the revision was necessary because standards that have been in effect for five years or more should be reviewed according to the procedure.

He also explained that it aims to streamline the services of the community and institutions in order to meet the needs of the times and to respond to the changing needs of the world and to ensure that the content and professional changes, including technology, are carried out.

Among the standards to be revised, there are various standards for soil quality measurement for construction, agriculture and similar services; and regarding health and health-related issues, it is applicable to all health-related institutions, including government and private health institutions.

The official also mentioned that there are many standards that are issued to prevent human health from being affected by noise; for example, it determines the level of many sounds, including the limit of the sound level heard from machines in a factory.

Accordingly, he stated that the National Technical Committee has been prepared to participate in the revision; and they are in the process of submitting them to the National Standards Council for approval.
