The Addis Ababa Transport Bureau announced that it will start taking action against service providers that do not provide public transport services by 4:00 PM in Addis Ababa city.

It is recalled that the Addis Ababa City Administration Cabinet, in accordance with the regulation issued by Resolution No. 185/2017, approved a new law requiring any public transport service provider to provide transport services until 4:00 PM.

Accordingly, the bureau has reminded that any public transport service provider cannot discontinue transport services before 4:00 PM, provide services outside the designated route, load buses, and charge the public other than the legal tariff issued by the Addis Ababa Transport Bureau.

The information obtained from the social media page of the Addis Ababa Transport Bureau indicates that the owners and drivers of public transport service providers who do not implement the restrictions set out in the regulation and operate illegally outside the bureau’s public transport service delivery procedures and guidelines will be fined five thousand (5,000) birr, based on the penalty level set out in the regulation.

The bureau has called on service providers to serve the community with a sense of service.

The public is also urged to report illegal service providers who are disrupting the service by calling the toll-free hotline 9417 or in person at the nearest transport department offices and transport sector professionals by taking the vehicle’s license plate and time.
