The celebration of the Agaw Horsemen's Festival has begun.

Ethiopia | Today is a day when horses and fields come together to present a unique spectacle for the eyes of the beholders. We are in the land of the Agaw, celebrating the 85th Agaw Horsemen's Festival.

The festival is celebrated annually on Tir 23 in Injibara city with grandeur, but the preparations for this year's celebration are particularly noteworthy due to its elevated significance.

Regional and federal government officials are in attendance. Both domestic and international guests have also arrived. Injibara has been welcoming and hosting its guests since early morning. Today, the horsemen are showcasing their horses, performing special displays and creating a unique celebration for the guests. It's all about the horses and the fields. After a while, various horse shows will begin.

The region's unique and traditional foods and drinks, traditional clothing, and utensils, as well as the area's handicrafts, are all on display for viewing.

"The Agaw Horsemen's Festival preserves its traditional value and continues to be celebrated and flourish, with the Amhara Region Culture and Tourism Bureau taking responsibility," said Mr. Melkamu Tsegaye.

Mr. Melkamu Tsegaye, the head of the Amhara Region Culture and Tourism Bureau, conveyed a congratulatory message on the occasion of the 85th Agaw Horsemen's Festival.

The full message follows:

Congratulations on the peaceful celebration of the 85th Agaw Horsemen's Festival!

Our region is home to many tangible and intangible cultural heritages. Among the intangible cultural heritages is the Agaw Horsemen's Association and its annual celebration.

The Agaw Horsemen's Association has a long history and is a cultural heritage that has become a symbol of the Agaw people.

The formation of the association and the celebration of the festival are historically linked to the Italian invasion of 1928-1933 EC, as we understand from historical documents and ancestral accounts.

The Agaw heroes, alongside other Ethiopians, united to repel the enemy during that era, riding their horses to strike fear into the enemy. To commemorate the bravery of the Agaw heroes and their horses, the association was established and passed down to the current generation.

Since then, the Agaw Horsemen's Association has strengthened its organization, expanded its membership, and annually celebrated its festival, becoming a lasting institution and a model for sustainable institution building.

Especially, the Agaw Horsemen's Festival, which has been celebrated for the past 84 years and is now being celebrated for the 85th time, is a significant event that embodies the faith and bravery of the Agaw people, passed down through generations.

As we celebrate the Agaw Horsemen's Festival, we always remember the heroism of our fathers, their undying spirit, their stand for national sovereignty, their true struggle, and their strong faith and determination for the unity of Ethiopia.

The Agaw Horsemen's Association, by integrating history with current activities, preserves traditional values and social norms, passing down our heritage from generation to generation. The Agaw Horsemen's Association is not only a value for our region but also a pride and beauty. We all must preserve, nurture, and cherish it.

The Amhara Region Culture and Tourism Bureau, like with other cultural festivals and heritages, takes responsibility to ensure the Agaw Horsemen's Festival preserves its traditional value and continues to be celebrated and flourish.

Once again, congratulations!!

I hope we have a wonderful festival!!
