Ethiopian delegation attends special meeting in Brazil

Ethiopia has attended a special meeting of the BRICS Deputy Foreign Ministers’ Delegation for the Middle East and North Africa.

In his speech, Ethiopian Ambassador to Brazil, Prince Seged Tadesse, expressed concern over the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in the Middle East and North Africa region. 

He recalled that Ethiopia has been advocating for peaceful and diplomatic solutions to all issues in accordance with international law and the UN Charter. 

The ambassador, who stressed the need to resolve urgent humanitarian crises in the region, said that dialogue and effective diplomacy are necessary to achieve lasting peace and inclusive development. 

He noted that Ethiopia has zero tolerance for terrorism in any form and called for strengthening international cooperation and partnership to combat terrorist groups. 

Ambassador Liulseged also stated that Ethiopia is making unremitting efforts to facilitate a diplomatic solution to the Sudanese conflict. 

He recalled that Ethiopia hosted a conference last month to find a solution to the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, and called on BRICS member states to support the humanitarian crisis in Sudan. 

He also recalled that Ethiopia is a country with a large population and is located on the coast of the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean, and emphasized that it is in the special interest of the international community to contribute to comprehensive cooperation in the region. 

The participants of the meeting issued a joint statement on the concern over the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa, according to information obtained from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

The Deputy Ministers and Special Envoys welcomed the High-Level Humanitarian Conference hosted by Ethiopia and coordinated by the United Arab Emirates, IGAD, the African Union and the United Nations to assist the people of Sudan.
