Uganda reduced the rate of electricity consumption
Ethiopia | East African Uganda has announced that it will revise the electricity consumption rate.
The country came to this decision because it has been handing over the sale of electricity to a private company for the past 20 years.
The country's government has announced that it will terminate the contract from next March because the company is unable to distribute electricity to the citizens properly and is constantly adjusting the prices.
Uganda's Minister of Energy, Ruth Nankabirwa, said that two companies established by the government have completed their preliminary preparations to provide electricity, build power infrastructure and carry out related works.
According to the country's newspaper Monitor, one kilowatt is currently selling for 796 Ugandan shillings or 0.2 dollars per hour.
It is also mentioned in the report that when the government takes over the responsibility of distributing power from next April, it will reduce the price of this power sale rate.
Among the tariff reforms that are to be done, there is a demand for a reduction in the price of the manufacturing industries as they use more energy.
It is also stated that this system is developed because the more productive industries are, the more they support the economy.
Also, the new state-owned power distribution company was allowed to spend 20 percent of its annual revenue to modernize its infrastructure.
In general, the country's government plans to spend 70 million dollars annually on the construction of electricity infrastructure, it was also mentioned in the report.
