The failure to verify the noise pollution caused by the establishment during the issuance of business licenses has exacerbated the problem
#Ethiopia | The Environmental Protection Authority has announced that the failure to verify the noise pollution caused by the establishment during the issuance of licenses for various businesses is an obstacle to controlling noise pollution, especially in condominiums and residential areas.
The authority’s Environmental Pollution Control Coordinator, Senait Tesfaye, told Ahadoo that “the Environmental Protection Authority should be consulted before establishments are built.”
He also recalled that the Environment Protection Agency worked with the Commerce Bureau to reduce the negative impact of establishments on the environment before they started operating.
He said that the gap created by the suspension of the procedure for a while; He said that the extent to which the excessive noise emitted by commercial establishments pollutes the environment and the problem cannot be reduced.
“This has caused establishments to be lazy and not fulfill their responsibilities,” said Ms. Senait, the authority’s Environmental Pollution Control Coordinator.
Ahadu has also contacted the Addis Ababa City Administration’s Commercial Bureau, where the complaint was filed.
In his response, the authority’s communications representative, Musma Jemal, recalled that under the previous system of 2 years ago, the approval of the Environmental Protection Authority was required before a business license was issued; “But now the business license is being issued directly.”
It is known that commercial establishments and factories located in residential villages and under communal buildings frequently receive complaints regarding noise pollution.
