358 documents found to be 73 percent fake in investigation

 

#Ethiopia | The Ethiopian Federal Police has received 191 criminal cases and 167 civil cases from the police and courts in the first six months of the 2017 fiscal year and has confirmed that 73 percent of them are fake through forensic examination.

 

The Ethiopian Federal Police is thoroughly investigating various criminal and civil cases with modern forensic laboratory equipment and providing the results to the relevant authorities.

 

The Forensic Investigation Department of the Ethiopian Federal Police, one of the modern laboratory units organized by the Forensic Investigation Department, is the Document Investigation Laboratory. It examines signatures on documents, stamps and seals, bank checks, passports, foreign currencies, texts and numbers, as well as documents related to inheritance and land maps, and confirms whether they are authentic or fake, thereby contributing to the justice system.

 

According to Article 23 of the Anti-Corruption Proclamation No. 881/2007, any person who forges, alters, modifies, or reduces the value of government and public organization documents in whole or in part, The Ethiopian Federal Police has stated that everyone should be aware of the fact that anyone who forges or alters a document is subject to imprisonment for up to life, depending on the severity of the crime.

 

Finally, the Ethiopian Federal Police has conveyed its message that the public should carefully consider the issues related to documents and exercise due caution when entering into any type of contract, making online transactions, and signing them.
