"My friends, including my wife, know my love and commitment to the profession, so they didn't want to pressure me," said Dr. Yeine Abera.

The day after the wedding, the obstetrician and embryo specialist, who went above and beyond to save both mother and child, received widespread praise for his heroic efforts. This commendable work took place at the Queen Eleni Mohammed Memorial Specialized Hospital in Hosaina City, Hadia Zone, Central Ethiopia.

Dr. Yeine Abera, a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology at the hospital, attended a reception organized by the bride's family the day after their wedding. While at the event, he received an urgent phone call from the hospital where he works.

The call was to assist a mother in labor who required surgery.

In an interview with Tikvah Ethiopia, Dr. Yeine explained the situation: "I understand that answering the call is important in our country's culture and tradition. That day, my in-laws called to honor us. The program was ongoing when I received the call."

"I initially didn’t take the first call, but when I was called again, I answered. I was informed that a mother was in labor and needed surgery, so I didn’t hesitate to go," he added.

Dr. Yeine decided to pause the festivities and rush to the hospital, determined to save both mother and child.

When asked by Tikvah Ethiopia how he explained the situation to his bride and gained her understanding, he replied, "Throughout our relationship, I often mentioned that such incidents could occur, but I never expected it to happen on our wedding day."

"I informed my bride and my cousins, and then headed to the hospital. My friends, including my wife, understood my dedication to my profession, so they didn’t want to pressure me," he said.

Dr. Yeine continued, "I decided to apologize to her family and then went to the hospital."

"When I arrived, the surgical team was ready, and I quickly made the necessary preparations to complete the operation successfully," he noted.

Dr. Yeine Abera earned his bachelor's degree in medicine from Hawassa University and completed his specialty training at Jimma University.
