Tikvah Ethiopian family members living in different areas of Addis Ababa indicated that they heard an earthquake at around 4:42 this evening.

 

Most of them sent their messages from areas with condominiums.

 

A member of our family said, "They live in Arabsa condominium and they felt the vibration for about 10 to 15 seconds."

 

Another member of our family reported that he heard an earthquake at around 10:44 in Gelan Condominium.

 

In addition, a member of our family said, "I felt so strong lately, it was scary."

 

Other cities in the region said they felt the earthquake, especially in the Awash Fentale area.

 

According to Addis Ababa University Geophysics, Space Science and Astronomy Institute information; Earthquakes of various sizes have been occurring in Awash Fantale District and its surroundings since December 10, 2017.

 

Around 9 o'clock today, an earthquake of 4.6 on the Richter scale, one of the highest in recent times, occurred.

 

Following the earthquake, the mountain showed signs of cracking and collapsing.

 

There was also the sound of explosions and smoke.
