Safety net program to benefit over 3,400 family heads launched in Mekelle city

The 2nd round of the Urban Development Safety Net Program, which will benefit low-income citizens in the Tigray region by engaging them in work and lasting for 3 years, began in Mekelle city today. 

 

The program, which was implemented with a budget of over 670 million birr allocated by the federal government, is expected to benefit 3,447 family heads who will participate in various urban cleaning and beautification works. 

 

Regarding the launch of the program, Mekelle City Safety Net Program Coordinator Ato Teshale Berhane said; The beneficiaries of the program are managing at least 4 families. 

 

He also said that the aim of the 2nd round of the Safety Net Program is to involve beneficiaries in various jobs for 3 years and transition them to a job where they can earn a sustainable source of income. 

 

The coordinator stated that 3,215 family heads who benefited from the first round of the Safety Net program will graduate next month, EZA reported.
