Addis Ababa, July 6, 2016 (FBC) Civil Registration and Residency Service Agency of Addis Ababa City Administration announced that 4 thousand 696 divorces were registered in the fiscal year ended.

According to Yosef Nguse, director of residents services of the agency, 2 million 239 thousand 713 customers were served from the center to the district in 2015.

Of this, 37,397 were marriages and 4,696 were divorces.

He said that this year's divorce rate is 59.89 percent higher than the same period last year.

For example, in 2014, 2 thousand 937 divorces were registered and in 2015, it increased to 4 thousand 696.

Ato Yosef stated that there may be divorces that have not been brought to the agency. He said that this figure only refers to the divorce registered by the agency.

Marriage and family counselor Yimesgen Mola mentioned that the increase in divorce is a concern and he mentioned that conflict occurs when people only think about receiving instead of giving.

Among the reasons that lead to divorce are lack of money, family interference, misunderstanding, incompatibility of needs (distrust).

They also mentioned that privacy and sexism were cited as reasons.

He also explained that because the cause of divorce can mostly be related to lack of preparation - about marriage, family management, and living for someone else instead of oneself, if people develop themselves (prepare) through reading and other methods, it will help to reduce the rate of divorce.
