Ethiopia and Finland hold talks on water sector cooperation

The Minister of Water and Energy, Dr. Habtamu Ittefa (PhD), met with a Finnish delegation led by Ambassador Helena Eraksinen, Deputy Director General for Africa, Middle East and Latin America at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland. 

 

The talks focused on cooperation between Ethiopia and Finland in the water sector.

 

The Minister of Water and Energy, Dr. Habtamu Ittefa (PhD), appreciated the support of the Finnish government and people to Ethiopia; and explained the improvements that the Finnish government, in collaboration with the Ethiopian government, should implement in the fifth round of the COWASH program.

 

In his presentation, the Minister focused on areas affected by water scarcity and drought; areas where drinking water infrastructure has been damaged by conflict; He stated that it should be implemented in a way that focuses on the construction of solar water infrastructure; water services and WASH committees; capacity building activities and updating the water resources information system.

 

Ambassador Helena Eraksinen, Deputy Director General for Africa, Middle East and Latin America at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland, explained that a decision will be reached through further discussions regarding the implementation of the fifth round of the WASH program, according to information received from the Ministry of Water and Energy.
