The government will continue to strengthen the development works it has started in the Afar region, according to Engineer Negash Wagesho (Dr.), the Chief Administrator of the Southwest Ethiopia Region.

Engineer Negash Wagesho (Dr.), the Chief Administrator of the Southwest Ethiopia Region, stated that the government will intensify the development works it has initiated in the Afar region by involving the pastoralist community to fully utilize the region’s resources. Speaking at a public conference held in Semera city, the Chief Administrator, who chaired the event, said that since the reform, the government has achieved remarkable results by enabling the establishment of large factories in the region to properly utilize the natural resources available in Afar.

Conference participants urged the government to work toward a sustainable solution to address the recurring flood disasters that affect the region annually.

They also requested necessary renovations to the Tendaho Dam, citing its risks to the local community and its importance as a trade route for the country’s import and export activities.

It was emphasized that the government is prioritizing responses at every level to sustainably address questions related to flood prevention and other infrastructure issues.

It was further noted that the Afar people’s courage in maintaining peace should be replicated in development efforts to ensure food security.
