The Ministry of Agriculture announced that 21 billion birr has been subsidized for the purchase of fertilizers for the 2015/16 harvest season.

The ministry made a statement today regarding the input of fertilizers for the upcoming harvest season.

The Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Girma Amente, who made the statement, said that taking into consideration the current situation of transport and general government, 21 billion birr has been subsidized for the purchase of fertilizer inputs.

The Minister stated that this covers an average subsidy of 1,566 Birr on the price of each quintal of fertilizer.

He said that 370,000 quintals of best seeds will be made available by coordinating with federal institutions and best seed breeders.

The minister also said that we will use the best breeders of the region to fill the deficiencies.

In terms of making agricultural resources accessible, he said that in the past few years, due to the Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war, efforts are being made to improve the agricultural sector by solving the problem of access to agricultural resources by making the best seeds and agricultural resources available on time.

He also pointed out that 90 percent of the total fertilizer delivered to the port for the harvest season of 2015/16 has been delivered to the regional central warehouse.

He indicated that including the remaining 2 million quintals of fertilizer from the previous year, more than 15 million quintals of soil fertilizer will be used for irrigation, spring and autumn farming this year.
