Starting May 1st, the monthly electricity bill payment will be fully implemented by modern payment systems

Addis Ababa City Electricity Service has announced that starting May 1st, the monthly electricity consumption bill payment service of post-payment meters will be fully provided by modern payment systems.

The modern payment system is implemented through Tele Birr, CBE Birr and mobile banking options, and the service urges customers to realize this and make their monthly electricity consumption payments on time.

Ms. Smret Bele, the Customer Service Sales and Complaints Manager of the service, told ESA that the post-payment counters have started a strategic implementation since 2013 to update the monthly payment system.

With this, he mentioned that 72 percent of online payment service users have joined the modern payment system for the past two years and now the remaining 28 percent of users will be included in the system.

He mentioned that there are 30 post-payment service centers throughout Addis Ababa and said that in the coming month of May, 21 of the post-payment centers will be fully integrated into the modern system.

According to the manager's explanation, nine post-payment service centers located in different areas of the city will provide the bill payment system only for the month of May.

He said that making the payment system using modern payment systems will not only eliminate the hassles that customers had to face in the past at payment centers, but also allow them to get fast and accessible services.

He announced that the modern payment system will be provided according to the time frame in which the service provided utility payment service in the past and called on customers to save themselves from additional penalty costs by paying their consumption between the 26th of a month and the 15th of the following month.

He also explained that the modern payment system is convenient and easy for users, and works with any type of phone, and it avoids the harassment that especially the weak and disabled may face in the process of coming to the centers.
