Ambassador Birtukan Ayano, State Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairperson of the National Organizing Committee for the 38th African Union Summit, spoke with EBC about the preparations, hospitality and reception of the guests for the summit.

In this regard, he stated that Ethiopia is hosting the summit participants with preparations that befit its national dignity.

Recalling that 25 leaders came to the summit last year, Ambassador Birtukan stated that the number of leaders participating in this year's summit is 35.

He explained that all stakeholders are working together to ensure that the participating guests have a pleasant stay in Addis Ababa, starting from the airport.

The State Minister said that the conference is where Ethiopia will express its pride and show its face to the world; they are hosting guests with this appropriate provision, he said.

Ambassador Birtukan, who stated that they have been working on extensive preparations for about a year with special attention to this year’s conference; mentioned that the work done to beautify Addis Ababa city is also given special importance.

The State Minister said that the transformation of Addis Ababa has been appreciated by the participating guests; he stated that this strengthens the city’s status as a diplomatic capital.

Ambassador Birtukan, who stated that more than 40 international conferences have been organized in Addis Ababa before the African Union Summit; said that the city’s beautification work being carried out in the capital has increased the flow of conference tourism.
