"About 1.7 billion Birr has been invested" - Major Haile Gebre Selase
The 10th destination of Shaleka Haile Gebre Selase Hotel and Resort was inaugurated today (Thursday, December 24, 2017) in Jimma City, Oromia Region.
The hotel features three dining areas, a children's playground, and Moroccan baths, creating permanent employment for 210 people and is expected to generate about 400 jobs in the future.
Currently, approximately 106 rooms have been completed, with plans for a total of 114 rooms once construction is fully finished.
In his speech, Major Haile, who was present for the inauguration, thanked all the workers who completed the hotel construction in just one year and eight months. He noted that construction materials are expensive in Jimma, stating, "The blocks are being transported from Addis Ababa." He further explained that the deteriorating roads have contributed to the costs, causing blocks to break during transport.
Regarding the total investment for the hotel, he confirmed, "About 1.7 billion Birr has been invested."
The mayor of Jimma, Mr. Taha Kuruma, was present at the event and remarked, "Jimma Abajfar is a city that welcomes everyone. It serves as a demonstration for investors to learn about the power to change the world."
Chief Administrator of Jimma Zone, Mr. Tjani Nasir, expressed his joy, saying, "When my power is called, we laugh; when my power is called, our tears come. This achievement is not just for me but for the people of Jimma." He recalled wishing for such a hotel in Jimma after seeing the Hayley Hotel in Sulta, stating, "Now I see it realized, and it brings tears to my eyes."
He noted that there are 900 rooms across ten hotels and resorts, providing job opportunities for 2,500 workers.
