"Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy" aims to increase the contribution of the digital economy to 12 percent

The Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy is a national strategy recently announced by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) to advance our country's digital ecosystem.

This strategy replaces the previously implemented Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy and is a plan with broad goals.

Speaking to ETV about the content of the strategy, Ato Tewodros Tazez, Head of the National Electronic Government Development and Management Desk at the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, said: The Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy aims to accelerate our country's economic growth through digital options.

He pointed out that digital transformation activities will be carried out following the implementation of the Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy; He said that the government will work to significantly expand the infrastructure development strategy that was already in place in 2025.

He said that the implementation of the Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy will increase internet access from 45 percent to 95 percent by the end of the Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy, and will provide 5,000 government services online.

He noted that at the end of the Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy, the digital economy contributed 4 percent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP); by 2030, the digital economy’s contribution is planned to increase to 12 percent.

He said that the Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy aims to make Ethiopia fit for the global technology market; and that it will work to enable the public to access efficient services by linking services with benefits at the national level.

He said that the strategy is a strategy with a big goal to make Ethiopia the technology hub of Africa and to simplify the lifestyle of citizens through technology.
