Today, a discussion was held with stakeholders to effectively implement the draft regulation prepared to determine the support to be provided to control street prostitution and street prostitution in Dire Dawa administration.
At the forum, Ms. Hukmia Mohammed, Head of the Women, Children and Social Affairs Bureau of Dire Dawa Administration, explained that street prostitution and street prostitution have been increasing in Dire Dawa city over time; this has negatively affected the daily social life and business activities of the city, as well as the provision of basic services, health care, environmental protection and cleanliness.
Ms. Hoekmia added that today's forum is primarily a discussion forum aimed at implementing the regulations issued by the government and working with stakeholders to implement them effectively.
Ms. Hoekmia recalled that in the past, work was done to prevent street vendors and beggars in coordination with stakeholders, and that regulations have been prepared to prevent begging and illegal activities in areas that are prohibited by the government, and that work should be carried out consistently to implement the regulations.
She mentioned that a shelter has been prepared for the elderly, and that convenient conditions will be created for the mentally ill to receive medical support. In addition, Ms. Hoekmia said that short trainings will be organized in collaboration with the Job Skills Bureau for those who can work but have made a living on the streets and begging. Finally, the head of the Dire Dawa administration added that all sections of society should work together to prevent street begging, street prostitution, and illegal activities on the streets.
The stakeholders who participated in the discussion indicated that they will work together with the community to implement the law.
