Coordinated efforts to prevent sexual violence against women will continue to be strengthened - Ergoge Tesfaye (Dr.)

The Minister of Women and Social Affairs Ergoge Tesfaye (Dr.) has announced that the prevention of sexual violence against women and children and the legal action taken against the perpetrators will continue to be strengthened.

 

International Anti-Sexual Violence Day has started to be celebrated at the national level in Dredawa. 

 

Minister of Women and Social Affairs Ergoge Tesfaye (Dr.) attended the ceremony. He said that sexual violence against women and children not only causes physical and psychological harm, but also creates social and economic pressures. 

 

He said that the activities of preventing the problem in advance and taking appropriate legal action against the offenders have been strengthened. 

 

He stated that legal and administrative measures to enforce the Constitution and the international rights of women and children have been developed and strengthened. 

 

He said that it is being done in coordination with the relevant bodies to strengthen monitoring and control activities through modern information management and punish those who cause harm. 

 

He also announced that efforts are being made to ensure that the children and women affected by the problem can have a successful future by establishing a center for multidisciplinary medical, legal and other services and a children's court. 

 

He also mentioned that in cooperation with the World Bank and other international partner organizations, the participation and benefits of vulnerable women in economic and social activities are being enhanced. 

 

He said that strengthening these initiatives and preventing the problem is not left to one institution alone, but requires the coordinated efforts and support of all citizens, especially men. 

 

He pointed out that there will be mediation to accompany the activities started on the International Day of Sexual Violence, which started to be celebrated in Dredawa today and will last until December 1/2017. 

 

Mrs. Fethia Aden, Speaker of Dredawa Administrative Council, who participated in the celebration, said that a coordinated movement is being made to respect the human, democratic and constitutional rights of women and children. 

 

He said that even though the efforts to ensure the participation and benefit of women in all fields of the administration have enabled fundamental changes to be recorded, it is still the responsibility of all citizens to completely stop violence against women and children. 

 

Mrs. Hukmia Mohammed, Head of Women, Children and Social Affairs Bureau of Dredawa Administration, said that since the Dredawa administration is working in coordination with the justice and security bodies to prevent sexual violence against women and children, a better change is being recorded. 

 

On the International Anti-Sexual Violence Day, which began to be celebrated today in Dredawa with the theme "Women's violence is mine too, I will not remain silent", the Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council, Mrs. Zahara Humed, senior leaders of women and social affairs, leaders of regional and city administrations, international partners ESA reported that representatives of organizations participated.
