Minister of Water and Energy Habtamu Itefa (Dr. E.) has stated that the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam will contribute greatly to regional energy connectivity. 

 

He also announced that energy connectivity between East African countries is crucial to ensure sustainable development in the region. 

 

He also pointed out that the energy connectivity created in the region will enable the development of renewable energy on a large scale and make clean energy accessible to the citizens at an affordable price. 

 

The Minister is participating in the East African Energy Interconnection Ministerial Meeting in Mombasa, Kenya. 

 

The World Bank and other development partner organizations present at the forum pointed out that the energy connection that Ethiopia is making in East Africa is a great experience for other areas.  

 

Ethiopia is supplying energy to Djibouti, Kenya and Sudan; Information from the ministry indicates that it is in the process of supplying power to South Sudan and Tanzania.
