Patients said that the increase in queues for radiation treatment at Black Lion Hospital is causing them more health problems.

 Patients waiting in line for radiation treatment at Black Lion General Hospital expressed their complaints to Fana Broadcasting Corporation that they are being subjected to more health problems.

Radiation therapy is being given as one of the cancer treatments at the hospital.

They say that only two medical machines are providing services in the hospital, so patients are waiting in queues and are being subjected to more health problems and abuses as well as social and economic crisis.

Patients from different parts of Ethiopia come to the capital to use the medical services.

The patients who gave us their feedback say that they have been going to the Black Lion Hospital for years.

The young woman we met at the hospital to treat her family member said that even though it has been two years since the patient was told that he would have to undergo radiation treatment for cancer, he still could not get the treatment because of the queue.

Due to not being able to get treatment in time, she says with sympathy that the front part of one side cannot move and is numb.

When our site visited the hospital and talked to the patients, it was observed that there are patients who have been waiting for more than a year.

Medical professionals who mention that cancer spreads from one organ to another and expands its damage, recognize the disease in time to destroy the cancer cells in the same place and use radiation therapy as the main choice to stop the cancer's growth.

Although radiation therapy is preferred, only Jimma and Haromaya hospitals, including the Black Lion, provide radiation therapy services in Ethiopia.

Dr. Edom Seife, head of cancer treatment department and cancer treatment specialist at Black Lion Specialized Hospital, mentioned that there are two radiation treatment machines in the hospital.

These are the "Cobalt" machine and the recently installed "Linear Accelerator" beam machines.

However, it is said that the machines break down in service and due to various reasons, and the number of patients is causing problems in the treatment.

They explained that the machines need constant maintenance and will break down due to minor problems such as lack of software, hardware, maintenance, materials and so on.

They also explain that the two radiation therapy machines that are currently operating in the hospital are not adequate for the needs.

He pointed out that necessary materials should be provided for the frequent breakdowns and maintenance of radiation therapy machines.

Currently, it has been announced that a new radiation treatment machine has been purchased for Jimma, Haromaya, Gondar, Paulus, Hyder and Hawassa, including the Black Lion Hospital.

Dr. Edom said that the biggest solution to this problem is to get the purchased cancer treatment machines into service as soon as possible and to supply the necessary materials as a priority so that the existing ones do not face any problems.

In addition, the medical department gives priority to emergency patients
