We have reached out!
#Ethiopia | Global Alliance reaches out to needy farmers in Aine Bugna, North Wollo Zone.
Farmers in Aine Bugna Woreda, North Wollo Zone, are facing severe drought. Hundreds of thousands of farmers in the 14 woredas of the woreda are left without access to daily food assistance.
The five kebeles reached by the Global Alliance for Ethiopian Rights alone have a population of over 115,000. Estimating the number of remaining kebeles based on the population of these kebeles gives an idea of the extent of the drought. Farmers we met in Zeblo, Fellfeliq, Birqaqua, Debre Egzi and
Kob kebeles where Global Alliance has supported have told us that the drought has been going on for years.
The lack of winter rains, even when the rains come, snowmelt, landslides, fertilizer shortages, civil war, climate change and civil war have been taking their toll for years. The area, which was known for its productivity, has been dependent on daily assistance for years.
The elderly are waiting for people to help them during their stay. Children are at risk of malnutrition. The breasts that mothers feed their children have dried up. The youth have not been able to run around and manage themselves in other jobs due to the internal conflict in the area. The residents of the zone have been forced to seek support.
The Global Alliance, which has always been by Ethiopians’ side and in their times of need, has proven to be a source of support for the people by purchasing 778 quintals of maize flour at a cost of over 3.3 million birr.
At a time when travel and access to the community is challenging, the Global Alliance, led by artist and activist Tamang Beyene, has extended its support through its representative in Ethiopia, Fakadu Abay, to Ayne Bugna Woreda, Kob Kebele.
Elders, religious leaders, women’s representatives, the kebele administrator, aid coordinator representatives, and farmers who received 778 quintals of corn flour worth 3.3 million birr from the Global Alliance in Kob Kebele, expressed their gratitude for the support they received during this difficult time.
They expressed their gratitude for being with them during this difficult time, when they are hoping for the arrival of the autumn rains and the community is suffering from severe drought.
They stated that the price of reaching the target was high, given the security threat in the area and the difficult terrain and climate conditions.
They also called on other donors, such as the Global Alliance, to provide support in light of the severe drought in the district.
