"If you want to be rich, stay away from a theatre" - Haregewoin.
It was announced by the parliament that the militants of South Sudan, which borders Ethiopia in the southwest region, have penetrated 200 kilometers into Ethiopia and changed the name of a district town.
The Standing Committee on Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs of the House of Representatives recently visited the border areas of Gambella and Southwest Ethiopia, which border South Sudan, and said that they understood the killing, robbery and displacement of Ethiopians.
The Standing Committee, attended by members who have returned from the field, reviewed the Ministry of National Defense's six-month plan performance last week.
From the council members who returned from the field observation, they said that in the southwest Omo zone, South Sudanese militants have crossed 150 to 200 kilometers to the Ethiopian border, established a camp, killed and displaced the local community, controlled many gold sites and are conducting illegal arms trafficking.
A member of the Standing Committee stated that they are displacing the local community in Suri, Birona, Majina and Surma districts, and they are displacing many people.
On the other hand, a member of the committee named Shemebet Mersha, who went to the southwest region for the field observation, said that he went as a team leader and explained that the region is blessed by nature and has a grace beyond itself that can turn Ethiopia around. However, although the border of South Sudan bordering the region has been guarded by the national defense army in the past, due to the recently completed law enforcement campaign, the defense of the areas of Maji, Bezina Surma in the southwest of Omo zone has gone to another mission, and they understand that the border will be guarded by the local residents.
The member of the committee said that it is difficult for the people to resist the power of the South Sudanese militants and they are leaving the village. The member of the committee explained that the group of bandits and militants from South Sudan are armed and have special training.
"The saddest thing is not only the release, but the fact that the militants have settled in two or three places, and the Ethiopian people, who mostly live in cattle breeding and farming, have been displaced and are killing each other," he said.
"So this is not very easy. Are we not Ethiopians because they have gone so far and deployed their own forces, and the issue that the people are asking for should be explained? Why can't we have an army? They will present a question," he explained.
"In fact, only about 50 or 60 people of the first nation are left, they took the others. In general, let me say this, it is very serious," he stressed to the Ministry of Defense. "Does defense not have this information?" The region is saying that you have provided information before. Now that the information has reached your hands, take this and grab it, and all the mines in South West Ethiopia and Gambella region are being robbed of gold and cattle.
