If we work hard in Afar, we have the potential to surpass ourselves and benefit our neighbors: Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD)

*************************

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) stated that the potential in Afar is beyond our own ability to overcome.

The Prime Minister gave his comments on his visit to the Afar region, Semera city and its surroundings today, which included agriculture and the urban corridor.

Noting that the bread factory, flour factory and salt factory, as well as the urban corridor, are being built in a very large scale, Prime Minister Abiy said; "I see that there is a beginning that connects the countryside with the city and realizes the prosperity that we envision by aligning our development ideas."

He said that the fodder grown on about 500 hectares of land in the region is a new grass species, and once sown, it is harvested every 45 days for three years.

He said that the fodder helps prevent livestock from suffering due to drought when there is a lack of rain in the area, and that the fodder cultivation has also started in Somali and Borena regions in addition to Afar.

Prime Minister Abiy, who said that production at such a high temperature was unusual in the past, said that the wheat will be used as input for the bread factory built by the First Lady's Office and producing 300,000 loaves of bread per day and will be delivered to the local community.

He also said that the flour factory will produce up to 450 quintals of flour per day and will be adequately supplied to the residents of Semera.

He also mentioned that very good work is being done in the corridor development; He said that the development of the Semera corridor has made the work easier because there are no many dilapidated and dilapidated settlements.

He said that when the extensive road works and green development that have been started in the corridor are completed, a better city can be seen after the winter.

"If Afar cultivates, processes it and provides it for food, and provides fodder for livestock; it can be considered that works are being done that can completely change the area in terms of agriculture, agriculture, and industry," said Prime Minister Abiy.

He noted that the work done should not be exaggerated because Afar has more potential than this; he said that if worked hard, it has the potential to increase up to 30 times this.

"Since there is sufficient land and water in the area, Afar has the ability to feed itself and supply neighboring countries; Afar is known for its minerals, it has vast land, and this needs to be used for the prosperity of Ethiopia," he said.

He noted that while the start is encouraging, there is a need to work hard and fast; he added that such dedication in Afar during the month of Ramadan, in this heat, is a sign of the emergence of a new work culture in the region.
