The women's marathon record holder will be the guest of honor of the Great Run in Ethiopia

 

#Ethiopia Kenyan Ruth Chepngetich, who set the world's fastest marathon time in the Chicago Marathon a few weeks ago, will enter Addis Ababa next week to attend Africa's biggest road race as a guest of honor.

 

"I am very happy to come to Ethiopia," Ruth said in an interview with the organizers of the Great Run in Ethiopia. 

 

"I am honored to come to Ethiopia as a guest and I am excited to meet other famous athletes including Haile," she said.

 

Chepngetich became her third marathon champion in Chicago last month, setting a new world record of 2 hours, 9 minutes and 56 seconds. 

 

Thus, the Ethiopian Tigset Asefa improved the previous record by less than two minutes.

 

"No one believed that the record would be broken in such a short time," Ruth said of the world record she set in Chicago and the public opinion in Kenya. For me, it is a long time dream come true. After three years of practice and effort, I wish I could break the record,'' she said. 

 

The 2017 Sophie Malt Great Run in Ethiopia 10 km will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2017 at two starting points, the fast wave starting from Gion Hotel at 2:00 am and the Zena wave starting at 2:10 from Cross Square.
