Ethio Telecom has introduced DSTV, Africa’s largest entertainment service provider, to its customers via mobile phones.
Today, Ethio Telecom, Africa’s giant telecom company, and MultiChoice Africa Holdings, a leading entertainment company, have officially launched DSTV streaming packages.
These two major companies have today initiated a partnership service aimed at modernizing the entertainment world in Ethiopia using local languages.
The agreement enables customers to access various DSTV Ethiopia entertainment channels through packages (bundles) via modern fiber broadband internet and mobile data options.
The service includes various monthly mobile data package options.
Packages such as DSTV Gojo, Family, Meda, Meda Plus, and Premium, which include local content as well as international channels with up to a 35 percent discount, can be easily purchased and accessed through Telebirr and Ethio Gebeta by dialing *999#, it was stated.
Following the rollout of fiber lines to its customers, Ethio Telecom, in collaboration with MultiChoice Ethiopia, has officially launched this service to provide DSTV channels bundled with broadband internet and mobile packages. The launch was officiated by Ethio Telecom CEO Frehiwot Tamiru and MultiChoice Ethiopia General Director Gelila G/Michael.
Customers can purchase these packages, which offer up to a 26.5 percent discount through fiber broadband internet, at sales centers and enjoy entertainment programs from anywhere they choose, it was noted.
In addition, Ethio Telecom announced that within a year, it has fully equipped Addis Ababa with fiber lines.
The company stated that it is transitioning its long-standing copper service to fiber.
The conversion of customers’ copper telecom lines, which have been in use for over 100 years, to fiber is aimed at enhancing voice and data quality and meeting customer demands, it was explained.
This is said to help attract investment, promote growth, and realize Digital Ethiopia, according to the company.
It was reported that the company plans to connect 100,000 customers to fiber lines in the current budget year and is working according to this plan.
Furthermore, it was stated that all districts of Addis Ababa have been provided with private premium fiber services.
The company explained that it is offering premium Wi-Fi services to customers.
This is expected to save customers from the tedious work associated with maintenance, it was added.
