The Victory of Adwa is our glorious history that has glorified Ethiopia in the world arena, said the President of Gambella Regional State, Alemitu Umod.

The President sent a congratulatory message on the 129th anniversary of the Victory of Adwa.

In her message, the President said that the Victory of Adwa is a clear example of how patriotism and unity can lead to success.

He recalled that the Battle of Adwa was the first time that the invading Italian army was defeated and returned; he also stated that the victory is a symbol of the victory of all black people.

The Victory of Adwa was the first time that the right-wing rulers in Africa were defeated by the black people; He also recalled that it was a historic victory that opened a new chapter for the freedom of Ethiopians in Africa.

The current generation should learn the power of unity and solidarity from our heroic ancestors; and strengthen national unity through the dominant nationalist narrative rather than individual divisive narratives, and leave its own mark on the construction of a strong state, the President said.

The President also said that the victory of Adwa not only united all Ethiopians but also demonstrated a great value of solidarity where patriotism was seen before, rather than self-interest.

He noted that the victory of Adwa has awakened the entire black people for their freedom; and he also stated that the attention being given to the victory every year should continue to be strengthened.

Just as the heroic ancestors protected the honor and freedom of Ethiopia by defeating foreign invaders, he called on the current generation to work tirelessly to strengthen national unity and free the country from poverty.

He stressed that the celebration should be celebrated by strengthening our unity with each other and strengthening our peace.
