The Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia, Mamo Mihretu, has said that the world order needs reform to keep pace with the times.

The first meeting of the BRICS Chief Coordinators and Deputy Chief Coordinators (Sherpas and Sus Sherpas) of 2025 began today in the Brazilian capital, Brasilia.

The Ethiopian delegation led by Ato Mamo Mihretu is also participating in the meeting.

Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira delivered the opening speech at the opening of the meeting.

The Chief Coordinator (Sherpa) of Ethiopia in BRICS, Ato Mamo Mihretu, stated that Ethiopia has long supported multilateral cooperation and common security, with the United Nations system at its center.

He noted that the global system needs to be reformed to address the many and complex challenges facing the world.

Ato Mamo indicated that Ethiopia’s membership in the New Development Bank is one of the key areas of focus in 2025.

He also indicated that the scope of trade relations between BRICS countries should be expanded.

He also said that it is necessary to work with determination to effectively implement the goals, programs and initiatives within the BRICS framework.

During the discussion, Ethiopia expressed its support for the key issues that Brazil will focus on as the BRICS Presidency in 2025.

The areas of focus are global health, reform of the global governance system, climate change finance, human-made intelligence management, Southern Hemisphere cooperation and BRICS institutional development.

The meeting of the BRICS member countries’ chief coordinators and deputy coordinators will last for two days, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
