Ethiopia shares experience with Gambia on Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam

A team led by the First Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Gambia, Abdulayo Sireh Jalo (Dr.), held discussions with the Minister of Water and Energy, Habtamu Ittefa (Dr., E/R). 

During the discussion, which focused on the experience of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, the Minister of Water and Energy, Habtamu Ittefa (Dr., E/R), stated that Ethiopia has a rich experience in generating power from water. 

He also pointed out that the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is a huge project in Africa, in terms of its size, financial resources and public participation, where many experiences have been gained. 

The Minister explained that the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is a great project that was built with the commitment of the government and the active participation of the people, with its own financial capacity, and strengthened the unity of the people. 

He indicated that the dam has started generating power by wisely overcoming all the efforts made to prevent the dam from failing. 

In his statement related to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam negotiation process, he said that the way in which African issues were managed by Africans in the negotiation process has become a great lesson. 

The Gambian delegation includes the First Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Abdulayo Sireh Jallo, and the Permanent Secretary for Economic and Financial Affairs of the Gambia, according to information received from the Ministry of Water and Energy.
