Assistant Commissioner Derartu Tulu was honored with a gold award for Atlet Khekehan Abera during a recognition event organized by the Ministry of Culture and Sports at the Haile Grand Hotel.

The event, which celebrated former and current leaders in athletics, concluded recently. Among the attendees were Honorable Shewit Shanka, the Minister of Culture and Sports, and Ato Mekiu Mohamed, Minister of State for the Sports Sector.

During the ceremony, Derartu Tulu received a 30-gram gold necklace, while the esteemed marathon athlete, Khekehan Abera, the federation's first vice president, was awarded a 20-gram gold necklace by Minister Shewit Shanka. Additionally, nine former executives received certificates, which led to complaints among attendees.

Many expressed disappointment over the unequal recognition, feeling that all former executives deserved acknowledgment for their contributions over the past four years. Some dissatisfied members reportedly left the event without partaking in the dinner provided.

One executive, who wished to remain anonymous, stated, "How can only two individuals be rewarded? We should have shared the accolades for our collective efforts in the federation." This sentiment of dissatisfaction resonated throughout the evening.

The program, which was closed to media coverage except for one photographer from the Ministry, featured a presentation by Minister of State Mekiu Mohamed, followed by closing remarks from Minister Shewit Shanka.
