#Ethiopia "For the first time in our history, summer wheat cultivation has exceeded harvest cultivation. Wheat cultivation is not only about ensuring food security of our country, but also a matter of national sovereignty. Therefore, knowing that it is our duty not only to meet domestic demand for wheat, but also to produce products for export, we started irrigated wheat cultivation in summer in addition to wheat cultivation.

 

Four years ago, we started with 7 thousand hectares of irrigated wheat cultivation, and by increasing it more than twice every year, we have been able to cultivate more than 1.1 million hectares of land. This year, based on last year's plan and execution, in a unique way in our history, our plan to cover 2.6 million hectares of land with summer irrigated wheat is being completely successful.

 

This year, the summer irrigated wheat cultivation will cover more than 5 million hectares of land. The work we saw today in Lume District of East Showa Zone proves that if we can cover the land with wheat till next month, we can achieve more results than we planned. Also, when we saw the urban agriculture works being done in the zone, it confirmed that there is a great opportunity ahead of us if we work hard in this regard!"
