"The only city in the country to have two UNESCO heritage sites - Harar": Legesse Tulu (PhD)

The Minister of Government Communication Services, Legesse Tulu (PhD), sent a congratulatory message on the occasion of the Shuwalid festival on his social media page.

The Minister stated that the Shuwalid cultural festival, which has been registered as an intangible cultural heritage by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in recent years, has made Harar the only city in the country to have two UNESCO heritage sites. 

The Minister also reminded that during the years of change, many works are being done to strengthen the good values ​​of our people in many parts of our country and to build a better country for the future generation. 

The Minister, who stated that Shawwalid is a festival celebrated for six consecutive days after the end of the Ramadan fast and Eid al-Fitr, said that Shawwalid is one of our cultural values ​​that has been passed down from generation to generation since ancient times and is a source of pride for Ethiopians like other festivals. 

It was also pointed out that this festival is of great importance in terms of promoting the values ​​of tolerance, solidarity and understanding in the region, especially in terms of developing the tourism sector. 

Shawwalid night is a cultural celebration in which the values ​​of solidarity that Harar is known for are also highlighted, and residents of different nationalities of the city participate together.
