The Head of the Somali Regional State, Mustafa Muhumed, said that the regional state has been able to carry out a variety of activities that have ensured the comprehensive benefit of the people in a few years.

In an interview with ETV, the Head of the State said that in the past seven years, true federalism has been realized and all ethnic groups have been given equal and fair decision-making power in national affairs.

He also mentioned that the people of the region were forced to be spectators of the divisive political ideology of main and partner before the change. 

He said that the establishment of a comprehensive and inclusive political system is now considered the greatest success of the transitional government.

The Head of State, who noted that efforts have been made to ensure peace in the region since the change and to respond to the development needs of the people, said that many successes have been achieved.

In the past 7 years, more than 600 primary schools and nearly 100 secondary and boarding schools have been built, focusing on increasing access to and quality of education.

The Head of State, who recalled that there were only 9 hospitals in the region before the change, stated that 10 new hospitals have been built and put into service in the past 6 years alone.

He pointed out that efforts are being made to increase the services provided to the pastoralist community, especially those related to childbirth and vaccination, and that no fewer than 15 additional hospitals are currently being built.

Ato Mustafa, who said that access to drinking water has been increased from 18 percent to 54 percent in rural areas, noted that 70 new towns have been able to get 24-hour electricity service in the past 7 years.

He said that in general, the region has been able to carry out activities that have ensured the universal benefit of society in various sectors, including road and telephone network coverage, in a few years.

Improving the service delivery process and continuing the institution-building activities that have been started are ongoing activities that will be focused on, while activities to ensure peace and justice will continue to be strengthened, he said.

“Corruption is a national enemy, it is an act that prevents the government from fulfilling its promises to the people and undermines its acceptance by the people,” the Head of State said, adding that fighting corruption and malpractice is a top priority for the government and the party.

There is no reason to repeat the mistakes of the past by allowing corruption and malpractice to spread in the region, said Ato Mustafa.

He added that the accusations being made by the old regime fanatics who do not want the development of the region, claiming that there is corruption in the region, are baseless and inconsistent with the feedback being given by the society.
