Addis Ababa and Semera universities are conducting geological research at the site of the Afar earthquake

The Command Post, established for disaster support and monitoring in the region, said that the people displaced by the earthquake in Afar region, the activated zone, Dulsa district, Saganto Kebele are being settled in shelters.  

 

Ahmed Ibrahim, the senior leadership of the Afar region and the coordinator of the command post established to provide disaster support and monitoring in the region, said that the areas where the earthquake is at risk of causing more damage to the community are being identified and residents are being made to settle in shelters. 

 

The coordinator told ETV that the government of Afar region has established a command post and started activities to prevent the earthquake from causing more damage to the community.

 

The coordinator, who headed the command post and conducted a field observation in Saganto Kebele, where the earthquake occurred, said that the government is responding strongly in providing water and clothing to the people who have entered the shelters.

 

Addis Ababa and Semera universities are also present at the site of the earthquake and conducting geological research and reporting to the relevant authorities, said Mr. Ahmed.
