Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.)’s Message of Congratulations

******************************

Congratulations on the 1446th Eid al-Fitr.

“Eid al-Fitr” is the holiday that marks the end of the Ramadan fast. Eid al-Fitr is a holiday of “thanksgiving, charity and brotherhood”.

Eid al-Fitr is a holiday that comes after a month of fasting. Fasting shows the weakness, inadequacy and limitations of man.

Unless the Creator supports him, the human capacity is limited. Whoever sees the arrogance, greed and evil that grow in this weak man, he learns that the enemy of man is his own nature.

Throughout the ages, man has not struggled to control himself as much as he has struggled to control others. The challenge we see in our country today is mainly the challenge that comes from lack of self-control. A person who does not control himself does not know his limits. He does not look inward. Instead of looking for his enemy in his own behavior, he looks for his enemy in his neighbor. Because of this, he lives in conflict with his own people. Times like Ramadan are useful for looking inward.

People who look inward are grateful. If a person does not know his own limits, he will not appreciate others; he will not thank others. If he does not understand what he does not have, he will not know what he has; he will not appreciate it. If he does not understand that his own behavior is his enemy, he will not love others.

This is why the end of the fast, Eid al-Fitr, is a festival of thanksgiving. Fasting is useful for self-control and gathering, from the family to the community. And gathering should be free from emotion, calm and self-control.

We would benefit from this value in our national dialogue. Talking alone is not enough. Let's get out of our emotions; be calm; look to the future - to consult. If that is the case, like Eid, the end of our consultation will be gratitude.

Another value of Eid is charity. Doing good things for those who are powerless; for those whose situation is not fulfilled. Helping a person only with his body, regardless of relationship, race or faith.

The full value of fasting is when charity is added. Charity means filling the other's shortcomings from one's own. Charity is a very important value for continuing as a country and for building as a people. Putting yourself in the shoes of another. Losing yourself in order to fill the shortcomings of another. Why does my country suffer? Why does my country suffer? We ask ourselves.

We cannot build a country by only protecting the interests and rights of our own people. We should share the pain and trials of the other side, regardless of our differences.

It is not when my house is complete that his house is complete. It is when his house is complete that my house is complete. If our political environment is not based on this existing value, we will have difficulty achieving justice and equality.

The Eid value that unites these two values is “brotherhood/sisterhood”. Brotherhood/sisterhood is a friendship based on shared values, cooperation and a common goal.

This friendship is based on morality, love and standing up for each other. It takes on shared responsibility.

It is the most important/but most forgotten value in the political life of our country. Viewing both rights and obligations through the lens of brotherhood/sisterhood brings things closer to the human being. It takes away from what is said to me and makes it for us; It also takes us out of the “for them and for us”; and from the “for them and for us” it takes us to the higher humanity of “forgive us; let it be done for them”.

The best solidarity between faiths, political parties, communities and elites is brotherhood/sisterhood.

It creates better understanding, better understanding and better understanding. The value that leads to forsaking for the sake of another; accepting for the sake of another and acknowledging the wrongs for the sake of another is brotherhood/sisterhood. This is why Eid is one of the values.

I call on us to celebrate Eid by thinking about, developing and using these values of the holiday for nation building. I urge families, neighbors, communities, and religious leaders to come together and let these three values of Eid stand out and build our society on them.

Eid Mubarak!

May Ethiopia be blessed and honored by the efforts of its children and live forever!

May the Creator bless Ethiopia and its people!
