We can build our future only when we properly preserve and develop our culture and traditions, said Shimelis Abdisa, the Head of the Oromia Regional State. 

 

The concluding ceremony of the 72nd round of Borena Aba Geda Bali (power) handover ceremony, which has been held in various ways since February 25, 2017, was held today in Dassa, East Borena Zone, Arero Woreda, Arda Jila.

 

With this, the 71st round Aba Geda Kura Jarso handed over his power to the 72nd Aba Geda Guyo Boru Guyo in a beautiful manner.

 

In his message to the audience, Oromia Regional State Governor Shimeles Abdisa said, “The Geda system has reached this point by studying and addressing the problems encountered in the process and by nurturing and developing our culture and traditions.”

 

“We can build our future only when we properly nurture and develop our culture and traditions,” said Ato Shimeles; “The generation should continue to nurture and develop our traditions and customs in a way that is in line with the times,” he said.

 

“The regional government is also working on the basis of the culture and traditions of the people through education and technology development, as well as social and economic development,” he said.

 

For her part, the Head of the Regional Culture and Tourism Bureau, Ms. Jamila Simbiru, said, “The Geda system has been renewing itself over the years and has successfully overcome challenges in a way that has made it this far.”

 

“Borena has nurtured Geda like its own child and brought it to this point,” said the Head; "The Geda system has been building generations, so it will continue to flourish and flourish in the future," he said.

 

The regional government will work hard to educate the generation and introduce the Geda system to the world, EZA reported.

 

A Kenyan delegation participated in the program; Kenya's Marsabit County Governor Mahmud Ali delivered a message.

 

In his message, he said, "Today is a day of joy; we have come to share the joy of our brothers."

 

The governor said, "The Geda system is a beautiful culture and an ancient democratic system." He thanked those who have preserved this beautiful culture.

 

The governor also conveyed a congratulatory message from Kenyan President William Ruto at the ceremony.

 

The Chief Administrator of East Borena, Ato Abdurezak Hussein, and the Chief Administrator of Borena Zone, Ato Abdusalam Wario, said that the people of Borena are the people who have preserved the value of the Geda system and have made it possible for it to be passed down from generation to generation.

 

The 72nd Borena Aba Geda Guyo Boru Guyo, who took over the reins today, will lead the Geda system for the next 8 years.
