The Revenue Bureau announced that it has fined more than 14,000 taxpayers who violated the law.

The Addis Ababa Revenue Bureau announced this at a forum where it introduced technologies that it said would help make tax collection free from fraud.

As a result, 14,220 taxpayers who violated the tax law were fined 763,675,000 birr.

Half of the taxpayers, 7,701, were fined 100,000 birr each for not issuing receipts.

The bureau said that the rest were fined for not updating their sales register machines, not posting advertisements, not placing machines in the wrong places, and not cooperating with inspection experts.

A system has been developed to help revenue collection in the market area with technology, which will be implemented from tomorrow.

The bureau's inspectors will be wearing a coded uniform and will be scanned with a QR code, the bureau's deputy chief and head of the tax department, Ms. Worknesh Seboka, told us.

The change in the procedure was necessary to prevent some inspectors, especially in the Merkato area, from neglecting their assigned duties and negotiating with taxpayers for their own benefit.

In addition, there are individuals who are fraudulently claiming to be from the Revenue Office; this was done to prevent this, he said.

From there, Arsenal grew more confident, though Milan responded late with a few dangerous counterattacks, especially through Rafael Leão.

One of the highlights for Arsenal fans was the appearance of teenage prospects Max Dowman and Marli Salmon. Both just 15, they played the final minutes, and Dowman had a near-magical solo run that almost ended in a goal.

Though the match ended 1-0, the teams took part in a scheduled penalty shootout afterwards, just for the fans. Milan edged it 6-5 in sudden death, despite Arsenal’s Kepa Arrizabalaga making three excellent saves.

All in all, Arsenal looked ready and well-prepared for the season ahead. Milan showed resilience but will need time to integrate under Massimiliano Allegri’s renewed leadership.
